Hey! Our pals at NYMF and Prospect Theater Company are joining forces to throw a swell concert in honor of Prospect's 10th anniversary  on Sunday, Sept 21st at 9 PM.

Stephen Bogardus will host, and many wonderful songs will be sung! Including "One More Thing" from THE TUTOR, roof to be raised by the fabulous Jennifer Damiano from the original Broadway cast of Spring Awakening.

"Hilariously Poignant"

THE TUTOR is "nothing short of hilariously poignant," says Show Business Weekly.

American Theater Web calls it "musical theater of the...most enjoyable kind." and goes on to say:

"Eric Ankrim imbues Edmund with a delightful blend of narcissism and entitlement but, most important, sweetness, allowing the audience to care about this man even initially when he's at his most self-serving.  Gayton Scott makes Sweetie's eccentric mom a mass of wide-eyed tics and loving neuroses while Richard Pruitt delivers with compassionate stalwartness as the girl's father. As the girl herself, Meredith Bull proves to be something of an unexpected powerhouse.  From underneath what seem to be five layers of heavy black-eyeliner, audiences will find that she has exceedingly expressive eyes and her voice, sometimes so casual when speaking, can deliver powerfully when Sweetie bursts into song.

Supporting these four principals are terrific tongue-in-cheek performances from Lucy Sorensen and Raphael Fetta, who not only bring Edmund's time-traveling romantic duo to life (in Naomi Wolff's grand costumes they emerge as everything from Scarlet and Rhett-inspired antebellum gentry to unlikely lovers straight out of a film noir).  Sorensen and Fetta display equal versatility with roles that are integral to the story as well."

We give both essays an A plus. Class dismissed!

"Club Night" was SOLD OUT!

THE TUTOR began its second weekend of performances at 59E59 Theaters with a SOLD-OUT Thursday night performance, plus a waiting list! Thanks to all the Prospect alumni who came to "club night" and made it such a great show. And thanks to the charming and generous Prospect donors who came to Saturday's patron dinner — another SOLD OUT show!  If you couldn't get into THE TUTOR this weekend, grab tickets now for the rest of the run — remember, we're only playing through Oct 2, and tickets are selling fast.

Who IS this girl?

Who can that spunky, doggie-loving, belting-out-her-big-number redhead possibly be? Here's a hint: imagine her a couple of years older, dressed in black, blue streaks in her hair, Doc Martens on her feet and a ring through her nose. She's still belting out her big numbers, still breaking your heart, but this time she has a pet boa constrictor instead of the cute dog. NOW do you know who she is? We are so pleased to announce that Prospect Theater will be presenting a special showcase production of THE TUTOR, for 16 performances only, at 59E59 Theatres. Our run will be in conjunction with the 2005 New York Music Theater Festival. THE TUTOR opens Sept 10 and closes Oct 2. With a winning mix of clever wit and surprising warmth, THE TUTOR tells a fresh, funny, contemporary tale of romance, art, and what it really takes to get into Princeton. When a struggling young novelist takes a job tutoring a sullen Manhattan girl, he thinks he's just out for quick cash. But when the characters in his novel start to come to life, and his teenage pupil begins to open up, his life takes a few surprising turns. This award-winning musical offers inventive, memorable music, vibrant characters, and way more laughs than taking the S.A.T.!

THE TUTOR is a three-time winner of the prestigious Richard Rodgers Award, which is administered by the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
