Here's a happy & grateful shout-out to all the swell people at the Riverdale-Yonkers Society for Ethical Culture, located in a lovely, leafy corner of the Bronx, right across the street from the Fieldston School. Society Leader Curt Collier invited me to give a talk this morning on the subject of story, and a fun time was had by all. Somehow I managed to segue from sharing my feelings about the Bush administration to reading an excerpt from Sex Kittens and Horn Dawgs Fall in Love. It made sense, but I think you had to be there.
Thanks to Curt for the invite and all the RYSEC'ers for such a warm reception! Note: picture at right is not Curt. Curt is a much snappier dresser than this. Picture at right is the bodacious Felix Adler (1851-1933), founder of the Ethical Culture movement. He was a champion of education for all, worked to abolish child labor and create affordable housing, and was basically the kind of make-the-world-a-better-place sort of person that SuperKitten Jess would totally approve of. Plus, his name was Felix! That's like the boy version of Felicia. How cool is that?
